Sometimes the reasons behind why a single deck blackjack game is a lot better than multiple deck games aren't that obvious. The truth is, there are more reasons than one why a single deck game is far better for players. The big reasons why you should prefer playing in a single deck game are you have better chances of getting a blackjack, dealers have less chances of getting a blackjack, and you have better chances of drawing good cards when you double down.
Historically speaking, single deck games have always been better for players for the mere fact that players have better chances of getting a blackjack. In a single deck game, if we randomly pull out just one card from off the deck the probability of that being an ace is already four out of 52. By drawing that ace on that turn your chances of getting a card valued at ten is 16 out of 51. The probabilities of getting a blackjack in a single deck game boils down to 4.82% since you may draw an ace first before the ten-value card or vice versa.
The math shows that we have the opportunity to get a blackjack dealt to us once every 20.72 hands dealt. Here are the probabilities for getting a blackjack dealt to us for every deck we add to a single deck:
One blackjack for every 20.72 hands for a single deck game. One blackjack for every 20.93 hands for a two deck game. One blackjack for every 21.02 hands for a four deck game. One blackjack for every 21.07 hands for a six deck game. One blackjack for every 21.07 hands for an eight deck game.
Another important thing to note is the effect of removing cards from a deck. This action has a greater effect on the percentages of the other cards in a single deck game than in a multiple deck game.
The second reason why single deck blackjack is better is that the dealer gets less chances of making a blackjack and thus getting a tie (i.e. push). This translates to more winning hands for the players. Pushes are 20% more likely for an eight or six deck variation than the single deck. This means that players have more potential to earn in a single deck game.
The third big reason why single deck blackjack is better is the fact that you have more chances of drawing a strategically good card when you double down for an 11 or ten.
Adding up all these reasons make playing on a single deck game really better for the players compared to multiple deck games.
